It was Aristotle who coined the famous phrase, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” This holds true for the collaborative efforts of the amazing team working on Richmond’s Smart Cities Proposal. The collaborative process has many benefits including encouraging creativity, sharing information and resources, taking advantage of synergies and problem solving from multiple perspectives.
As one of ten finalists in Infrastructure Canada’s Smart Cities Challenge, we’ve assembled a tireless team that includes staff from the following departments: Community Safety, Community Services, Corporate Communications and Marketing, Intergovernmental Relations and Protocols, Finance and Corporate Services, Planning and Development, Engineering and Information Technology. These specialists are working together to develop and refine Richmond’s four project outcomes in the Smart Cities Challenge:
- Protect our island city
- Integrate emergency communication platforms
- Bridge language barriers
- Create mobility systems to enhance daily life that are scalable to meet emergency response
In addition, the Richmond Smart City Team is collaborating with an advisory team of strategic partners from the community, including different levels of government, private and academic institutions, and non-profit organizations for a holistic outcome.
Throughout it all, the Richmond Smart City Team will be consulting with its most valuable team members, its residents—you. Find out how you can get involved.
